ENOUGH FOR NOW!

Saturday 3 November 2012

Ashley Road, Upper Wortley, Leeds

Ashley Road, or "School Street" was where I was brought up, from 0-about 11. The school there was Upper Wortley Primary, which stands derelict now. I lived at number 4, one of a row of terrace houses. The first two pictures show the Special Needs Care Home that has replaced that terrace. I took them about 2005 or so on a rare visit.

As I say, the 1950s and 60s were another story -

(This one ^^^^^^^^^ shows the old chippy as was. First on the right of Ashley Road there. Mum says there was a cobbler's next door (hence the different shade of paintwork).

The fifth picture, a closeup of the Junior School, I took myself. The other two are courtesy of the fine Leodis historical website. More -

This "cottage" is where the Robinsons lived. At the "rear" from here was the abode of the Griffiths family. That bungalow belongs to the Stainsby family. Credit - Leodis. Looks like it was taken from just in front of our house.

Another from Leodis: our "back yard. It was only "shored up" like that for a short while but that wasn't a good sign, on reflection. See the Junior School in the background.

One for the road: another Leodis: Leggott's sweet shop about twenty yards down Upper Wortley Road (the main road). Happy memories all these. My roots.

WEB WONDERS

The worldwide web is full of marvellous images. They must have bigger cameras than me.
 Here are some such pictures.

This image features on my Poetry blog: my poem "Mirror Mirror", which has attracted hundreds of Views recently. I assume it is mainly the picture which is so popular.

ME

I am a hobby Writer. But I see you Internet People love Images. Well here they are for you.

First off: some pictures of ME. My Profile, if you like.

(Me - Taken this very morning by my sister on my little Praktica Digital Camera)

I just walked into the conservatory and asked her to take my photo. Tried NOT to purse my lips this time!

(From My Parents' Photos)

Yep I've changed a bit since THIS lol. A professional photographer took this in Armley Town Street, Leeds. Mum tells me she held me up with her hand for this as she hid behind the "settee".

(From my Parents)

David Beckham eat your heart out. Me at three being coached by Mum at Flamborough, East Yorkshire. This caravan site was a regular holiday haunt of ours in the 1950s.

(From My Camera)

...Of course I'm much more grown up now. **Coughs** Here I'm using my sister's bin lid for that Spaceman look. As an infant I put a cardboard box over my head (cut out a slit to see through) but nobody took any photos of that. lol

They say Internet folk have low attention spans, so here's one for the road. Of course it's me with my Praktica using my bathroom mirror. Nuff fer this post.
